Do you find yourself bored with the same cardio workout you’ve been doing for years? For some, spending an hour on a treadmill has become an insufferable daily grind instead of what our workout routines should really be: fun and exhilarating. Enter dance-based workouts. Dance-based workouts are sweeping the country and making people excited about fitness again. These workouts are designed to feel more like a party than an exercise class and are spawning all sorts of creative and exhilarating incarnations. TourDeFIT.com Partner Crunch Gyms is now even offering a class called Stiletto Strength: an hour-long class featuring floor exercises to strengthen the calves, ankles and abdominal muscles concluding with 20 minutes of strutting, cat walking and simple dance steps, all in high heels.

According to a survey published by the American Council on Exercise, health and fitness specialists see dance-based workouts as a rapidly growing trend. In these classes you typically burn 200-400 calories per hour dancing – similar to the calories you burn swimming, cycling or walking. If you practice regularly, dancing can lead to a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure and improved cholesterol levels, all signs of improved health and fitness. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to shake your groove thing!

Swerve Studio, in Los Angeles, has cornered the market on dance-based exercise and are offering an assortment of stimulating classes that have people all over LA pumped to get fit. They’ve even created a brand new workout category called “Yoga Booty Ballet®, which they describe as a “East meets West amalgam of meditation, cardiovascular dance, ballet, Kundalini and hatha yoga. “ Yoga Booty Ballet® is a described as a transformational experience, focuses busy minds, improves cardiovascular endurance, promotes weight loss and improves body composition.

But Yoga Booty Ballet® isn’t the only creative dance-based class that Swerve Studio is serving up. They also offer intenSati, during which participants can burn up to 600 calories while engaging in a high energy fusion of martial arts, dance, yoga, aerobics, strength conditioning and meditation. Originally developed by fitness guru Patricia Moreno, intenSati can be a life-changing practice that empowers participants to love and care for their bodies.

Other classes offered by Swerve Studio include World Beat Workout, Shimmy Shape Up, and Dance Party, all designed to get you up and moving and having some fun while getting in shape.  And although Swerve Studio may be a leader of dace-fitness in LA, there are exciting new studios popping up all over the country, so make sure you check out TourDeFIT.com to find a great dance-based workout in your hometown!
